I wrote earlier about a school group appointing mediocre leadership (see below). Today, "the algorithm" (LinkedIn, not the other one) suggested I might like to follow this group, so of course I had a look. What did I see? All too predictable.
The National Direcror - Teaching and Learning has been active, in a way. She has not been highlighting any achievements or activities. Apparently there have not been any, at least not according to Linkedin or to the group's website. They have some new facilities and student lockers and some students have gone on some trips, but nothing in terms of Teaching and Learning.
What she is doing, several times a week and at times, several times a day, is to like or to share other people's achievements and activities. Those people are moving and shaking, or standing up or putting their head above the parapet. You could say they are making waves or rocking the boat. What they are not doing is keeping their heads down, avoiding being noticed, being safe.
Making changes involves stepping on someone else's foot, challenging the status quo, being irritating. Mediocrity is all too common in education as too many "leaders" want to play safe. If they can't see you, they can't target you.
Said school group will at some point have a reckoning, and in no small measure will it result from their senior appointments. Play silly games, win silly prizes. Or appoint silly people, get silly results.
