Again we have a report of a teacher being fired for doing something in her own time, and again she is in the wrong. Let me explain.
The school in question is private and religious meaning she and the school have a private and individual contract, and the contract delineates what she can and cannot do as a representative of the school, within and without school hours. I would wager that the contract also says that the school or its board or its director can define this.
The religious aspect of the school clearly limits what is acceptable, and while you or I might not agreee on this. the teacher in this case cannot be unaware of this school's views after 19 years of employment there.
As a teacher, you give up certain freedoms, and as a teacher in a private religious school, you give up even more. I am reminded of the aphorims about dancing with a bear. Once you so decide, the bear makes chooses the steps.
